When Servilles began work on a new hairdressing salon and day spa
at Auckland's Princes Wharf, they hired two New York designers.
David Howell handled the salon, and Clodagh Aubrey, the spa.
I was asked to help with the identity for Spa de Serville,
which was intended to be distinct from Servilles salon. I was to
work closely with Clodagh maintaining integrity with her design
values, described by words such as sensual, elemental and watery.
The building project ran past deadline, and the "menu" needed
to be finished, and there was no photography from the spa. This
challenge was met with some good mood work by Gisela Lange. In
the final outcome Servilles decided to integrate both venues in
a singular identity, which was subsequently updated with the menu,
including interior photography by Becky Nunes.
So even though this product was in circulation for a relatively
short time I feel it is a good record of a particular vision and
a part of the project history.
